Common Life is a neighborhood initiative in Columbia City that desires to connect neighbor to neighbor, faith to faith, and self to self. We are Christians seeking to re-imagine what faith rooted in a place and beyond institutional religion can look like.

Our initiative has been birthed out of a larger 501(c)(3)--Thresholds--whose desire is to birth life-giving communities all over the world. We are just getting started here in Columbia City, with only two paid staff and many volunteers. We desire to bring others along as we learn and grow together!

Matt & Amy Chapman (Founding Directors of Common Life)

After several years on staff at a large traditional church, Matt and Amy felt the call to integrate faith with the realities of their community. Since 2008 they have had the opportunity to be a part of two incredibly different intentional communities of faith in places that could not be more different (New Orleans & San Diego). As Seattle natives, their hearts eventually led them back to the place they once called home to launch a community of their own in the neighborhood of Columbia City. A hub with potential for modeling what it looks like to live a more integrated life, Columbia City is a place where people live, work, and play.

Matt and Amy currently are on staff with Thresholds serving as missional church leadership coaches. Matt is a certified life coach and pursuing his Masters in Global Urban Leadership from Bakke Graduate University. Their two boys, Nolan and Sam, attend public school in the area and are often found hanging out with friends or playing catch in the front yard.
